Skincare // Current Cleansers

It's been a while since I've outlined any sort of skincare routine on the blog, so over the next few weeks I'll be going over all the skincare I use day and night! Now, I use a lot of cleansers. So much so that if I were to put these in my day/night routine posts, they would be so long! So, I'm dedicating an entire post to them. I'll be sharing with you the products that I use to remove my makeup, cleanse and exfoliate my skin!

REMOVERS //

When it comes to removing my makeup, I almost always use either an oil or a balm, depending on how much makeup I'm wearing. Sometimes I use face wipes, but rarely will I use micellar water. I've got nothing against it - I feel like it's almost a waste of cotton :P Plus I don't find them effective on waterproof makeup!

Face of Australia Pure Skin Cleansing Oil*
When I first started using this, I actually really disliked it because it stung my eyes! I actually persevered though and I think my eyes got used to it? They don't sting anymore and this is actually a pretty effective cleansing oil so I didn't want it to go to waste. I need a few pumps of it, but it removes waterproof mascara and thick layers of foundation really well. It doesn't emulsify a lot, but rinses cleanly leaving no oily residue.

Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm* and Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm
I won't dwell on these since I wrote a whole post comparing them. Basically, both are really effective at makeup removal, but Elemis is just a bit more moisturising, where Clinique leaves no residue at all.

Trilogy Make-Up Be Gone Cleansing Balm*
This is the newest cleansing balm to my stash and I quite like it, though it's not my favourite. This has a very hard texture that melts into a super thick almost oily-paste-balm. When massaged into the skin, it feels a bit sticky almost. It's still just as effective in removing makeup - waterproof mascara included, but it takes a bit more effort to remove the balm itself since it's so sticky. It comes with a cloth to help removal. It does still leave a slight residue - which isn't a bad thing as it leaves the skin feeling very soft and nourished!

CLEANSERS //

Elemis White Brightening Eventone Cleanser*
Soooo...foaming cleansers are becoming a "thing" in my routine?? I just finished my Model Co one which I didn't mind, so I've recently opened this one to use in the morning. Foaming cleansers are products I would usually stay far away from, but I don't mind these ones that dispense in a foam. This one in particular isn't drying at all, and the foam itself feels light, fluffy and even a little moisturising! It definitely refreshes and cleans the skin, without drying or stripping. In terms of its brightening claims, I haven't noticed anything yet and I don't expect to as cleanser is something that doesn't stay on the skin long enough to have lasting effects!

Trilogy Active Enzyme Cleansing Cream
I bought this in the last Priceline skincare sale for a mere $6 (bargain!) and I think it was being discontinued, but actually I believe it was just repackaged into a glass bottle. Anyway, I use this most nights as a second cleanse (I'll generally use a balm twice if I'm wearing makeup, or another cleanser, then this). It's a very lightweight, creamy cleanser that supposedly has enzymes to chemically exfoliate the skin, but as I just mentioned, cleanser rarely has any lasting effects! I do really enjoy it though because I do feel like it's doing something, but very gently and without drying or irritating the skin.

Rosehip Plus Organic Daily Cream Cleanser*
If I'm using an exfoliating mask/scrub/toner, I'll opt for this cleanser so as not to overload my skin. This is a very thick, cream cleanser that's much heavier than the previous one. It's therefore a lot more mosturising on the skin and really does leave the skin feeling soft and nourished. This is my favourite for when I feel my skin is super dry! It works quite well as a first cleanse when paired with a washcloth as the thick texture helps break down makeup.

EXFOLIATORS //

Purabeaute Purasonic*
I have been using the Purasonic for a solid few months now as I wanted to properly test it before giving any sort of review. It's my first time using any sort of facial brush, and I was a bit hesitant as I thought it might be a bit harsh on the skin. I was excited to give it a go though as I had heard so many great stories of facial brushes like these completely changing people's skin! I only use it 2-3 times a week with the sensitive brush head, and I really like it! It's not harsh at all, though I use very light pressure and generally only on the mild or medium settings. It's a good addition to my routine for a gentle manual exfoliation. Overall I haven't noticed any massive differences in my skin, but I will say that I think my skin has improved from using it. My skin texture is slightly smoother and I believe my skin is less congested as I now typically only get bad hormonal breakouts, with a few in between (though I believe this is also due to other products I'm using!).

REN Micro Polish Cleanser
I rarely use facial scrubs as I predominantly use chemical exfoliators (and the Purasonic) but occasionally I will whip out this two-in-one cleanser and scrub (by occasionally, I mean like once a fortnight). It has a paste texture that is really packed full of gritty particles (kind of sandy rather than sharp things, y'know?) which I appreciate because I hate scrubs that have like 3 particles to "scrub". This isn't the most gentle cleanser as my skin is definitely a little red after using it (and dry) but it's not harsh or extremely stripping. I definitely think my skin is smoother and slightly brighter after using, but it's not an essential for me!

Elucent Whitening Exfoliating Cleanser*
Firstly, I want to say that this is the only Elucent product I like/use! I tried using the night and day cream for a few months, but I really disliked them. Not only were they kind of terrible as moisturisers, but I'm like 80% sure they broke me out. It was only after I stopped using them that my skin started improving. This cleanser though, isn't bad. It's sort of a light, liquidy creamy texture with very, very fine "scrubby" particles. It's extremely gentle and won't give much exfoliation at all, but it's a good daily option. I only ever use it as a first cleanse (when I have no makeup on) as it has shimmery bits in it that stick on the skin unless you use another cleanser after it. Anyway, I think I only have a third of the tube left and I actually quite like this cleanser, I think it's done some good for my skin, but I definitely don't recommend the other products from the range :P (I'm too scared to try the serum!).

Sooo yeah, I'm pretty high maintenance when it comes to the cleansers I use and I have way too many! Realistically, I only need like...four haha! But I like having the option of switching it up each night! Keep your eyes peeled for my other skincare posts coming soon, muchachos.

What are your favourite cleansers?
